Biography of Prof. Driss OUAOUICHA

Minister delegate in charge of Higher Education and Scientific Research

Education

Driss Ouaouicha studied at Mohammed-V University in Rabat from which he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature. He then obtained a Masters in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching from the University of Wales and a Ph.D in Linguistics and Education from the University of Texas at Austin (USA).

Academic career

From 2007 to 2008, Driss Ouaouicha was the executive director of scholarships at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane. In 1988, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the University of Meknes. A post he held until 1999. From 2008, he had served as president of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane before being appointed minister.

Political career

On October 9, 2019, he became Minister delegate to the Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, in charge of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is under the tutelage of Saaid Amzazi, the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research. Concurrently, he is a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) since 2011, and secretary general of the Moroccan British Society. He was secretary of the EuroMed Permanent University Forum.
