The Moroccan National Commission for Education, Sciences and Culture, established in 1957, is part of the global network of national cooperating bodies known as National Commissions for UNESCO.
This network, initially created in 1945 by UNESCO, has 199 National Commissions. It is an “unparalleled” tool for publicizing UNESCO’s objectives, broadening its influence and promoting the execution of its program in association with the intellectual and scientific circles of each member country.
The Moroccan National Commission also plays an interface role with the Organization of the Islamic World (ICESCO), and the Arab Organization (ALECSO), which were created respectively in 1982 and in 1970 to support and promote the sectors of education, sciences and culture in member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (for ICESCO, 54 member countries) and those of the League of Arab States (for ALECSO, 22 member countries).
Thus, the role of National Commissions, operating in almost all countries, has grown steadily over the years. They were initially in charge of information and execution functions to, later on, broaden their mission to the development and the evaluation of programs of UNESCO, ICESCO and ALECSO.
Since its creation, the Moroccan National Commission has been involved in the promotion, the coordination and the monitoring of programs relating to the fields of Education, Sciences and Culture, in perfect consultation with UNESCO, ICESCO and ALESCO and in partnership with the relevant ministerial departments and other stakeholders.
Considering the priorities granted by the Kingdom of Morocco under The High Guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI may God assist him for the development of the sectors of Education, Sciences and Culture, the Moroccan National Commission will be restructured and endowed the means necessary to enable it to fully play its role, to accomplish its missions under the best possible conditions and to monitor the programs and activities of the three organizations.
I am happy and honored to count you among the visitors to the website of the Moroccan National Commission, which represents a channel of exchange and communication with our various partners, and a source of information for the benefit of the general public.
Happy browsing!
